The number of instances of short circuit fires are increasing in the suburb. On September 8, computer hardware worth Rs 5-6 lakh were destroyed when a fire broke out at a shop situated on the first floor of the Sainath Plaza on J N Road in Mulund west.
The fire broke out at around 11 am on September 8, in ‘Compunet’, a shop dealing in computer hardware. According to the store’s employees, the fire started from the air conditioner due to short circuit. The fire destroyed 10 monitors, 34 CPUs, 14 printers and other accessories.
“We opened the shop at 10 am. At around 11 am, we saw sparks in the air conditioner. We then came out from the shop and informed the other stores in the building,” says an employee.
The fire brigade reached the spot in the next 15 minutes. However, by that time, the fire had engulfed the entire store. “When we reached the building, there was smoke in the entire floor. Several computer parts had burned to ashes. Fortunately, someone had cut off the main. The loss is estimated to be more than Rs 2 lakh. We are investigating,” says the fire brigade officer.
Meanwhile, this is the second short circuit fire this week in the locality. On September 3, the electric metre box of the Anubhav Building had burned to due to short circuit. Two weeks ago a short circuit fire had gutted television sets and furniture in a 20th floor flat at Runwal Heights on LBS Marg. In another accident, furniture worth several lakhs were burned to ashes when fire broke out in the wee hours at the Ego furniture store on Madan Mohan Malaviya Road.
