Vox populi
The BMC has announced a ban on feeding cows in public places and that the offenders will be slapped a fine of Rs 550-Rs 1100. Mulund-Powai Plus spoke to its readers to find out what they felt about the same.
Cows are considered holy as per Hindu mythology. A ban on feeding cows in public places will hurt the religious sentiments of many. I do not see any offence in feeding cows. This is an absurd decision taken by the BMC.
Amol Kakade, student, Vikhroli
This is a sensitive issue. The BMC should make an alternative arrangement for feeding cows, as a visit to the temples remains incomplete without this ritual!
Girish Kalyanji, shopkeeper, Kanjur Marg
I fail to understand the reason behind this ban. Keep aside the religious aspect of the story, but these cows do not cause any inconvenience to the common man. The ban is illogical.
Neeta Savla, service, Powai
This ban will hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community in the city. The BMC is here to take care of the public’s interest, not work against it. I oppose this ban.
Panna Vyas, housewife, Mulund
I am very agitated with this news. This decision by the BMC will only bring brickbats to them. They just cannot hurt the sentiments of the Hindus and get away with it. I do not know of any individual or organisation that has objected the feeding of cows in the city.
