Meena Darvesh

More to what meets the eye?

At the time of going to press the police were still trying to nab the killer in the Mulund Colony murder case. Mulund Plus spoke to Meena Darvesh, Narayankars’ daughter, to get her side of the story

The murder of Mulund colony resident, Laxmibai Narayankar has sent the whole suburb reeling in shock. Looking at the other side to the story, Meena Darvesh, Narayankar’s daughter, while talking to Mulund Plus, relates, “My daughter had called her from a public phone at 6 pm that evening to check on her, and she seemed just fine then. I wasn’t home and didn’t know that my daughter, Shubratha, had called. When I got back at 7 pm, I called her from my cell-phone, as we couldn’t make calls from our landline, but there was no response as the phone kept ringing. I kept trying every 15 minutes, thinking that she may have gone for a walk or may be attending her sessions with the ‘Om Shanti’ group.” From what she says, it is obvious that the murder has taken place between 6 and 7 pm.

Meanwhile, Darvesh, who lives in Khoparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, had also alerted the security-men at the main gate and enquired about her mother’s whereabouts, who had no clue. A call to her mother’s neighbour, Dr Mohanty, told her that the house was locked from outside. “By 10 pm, I was getting very impatient, and waited for my son, Sagar and my nephew to be home and reached Mulund a little after 11 pm,” she states.

A locked door, a blanket of darkness engulfing the premises and no information from Narayankar, had made her even more suspicious. This was when she called on her brother, Devdas, at Chembur, before attempting to break open the door herself.

Meanwhile, senior citizen, Raghbirsingh Gill, the chairman of Model Town, is shocked at the incident just like everyone else in all the three lanes. “She kept to herself and had few friends. In all these 25 years, nothing like this has ever happened,” he says. And he hopes that it never will. Till then the police are trying their best to crack the case as soon as possible.
