An early afternoon I got into a C.S.T bound local when the incident unfolded before my eyes. A cop boarded the train along with a young man into the ladies compartment. I saw the two talking to each other and noticed the cop gesturing towards a bag belonging to a lady selling accessories as they usually do in the trains. The man went and picked it up and proceeded towards the front exit of the compartment while I and the other ladies were left wondering as to what was happening. Meanwhile the woman whose stuff was taken away by the cop realized it and moved away from the sight of the cop and started hiding all the money she had. In utter bewilderment I asked her what happened and why she was hiding all the money at which she replied that it was a routine of the cops to pick their stuff and demand for money in return for their goods. And she even told me that at times they even took stuff from her bag without paying for it. Saying this got down at Ghatkopar and followed the cop to the Railway police station.
Within a short span of time I witnessed a similar situation when at Vikhroli station I saw a woman constable snatching a bundle of combs from the lady selling it.
All this made me realize that our entire nation is corrupt and we are doing nothing about it because we are too scared for our own safety.
